Chapter 3 Attitudes

Chapter 3 Attitudes

“Attitude is your state of mind. Your attitudes reflect a tendency to classify objects and events and to react to them with some consistency.”

I am going to stress the importance of attitude. I will not succeed if I do not think I can. I am going to succeed and therefore I will. I am going to be successful and I am going to make a million dollars within 10 years.

I base a lot of my current life standing on my past attitude. I did not always believe that I would succeed, and thus far, I do not have a lot to show. Now I believe that I can, and now I am going too. I am going to credit my success to the Law of Attraction. Everything that I want will come to me if I think about it. I want 10 houses and a car dealership. And here is my plan to attain it. More on what made me want to start my own business in chapter 8.

Every day from now on, I am going to go at life with a different attitude. Every day from now on, I am going to think about buying and fixing up 10 houses. And slowly, step by step, it will start to happen. I now believe in the power of thought, and that by thinking about what I want, I can achieve anything. This is going to be evident in my attitude.

People can tell a lot about a person from their attitude. Investors will see my attitude is that I am going to succeed, and they will be more likely to invest in my company. My attitude is what sets me apart from most people, I am going to get what I want, and that is the way it is going to be. A positive attitude will get me much farther then most people think I can go.

I went am actively pursuing my goals. The first house that I looked at, and I did not have any past experience doing it. Nevertheless, I showed up and gave the impression that I knew what I was talking about (I have done a lot of research on this). I talked as if I knew what I wanted, I was confident and I believed in myself. Joann, my agent was very impressed with what I had to say and she is very interested in helping find the kinds of houses that I am looking for. All because of my attitude. And from now on, I am going to have this attitude that I am going to be successful. I have found the house that I am looking for.

Chapter 4 Networking

Chapter 4 Networking

Networking is an extremely important part of the success process. Knowing what I want, will lead me to the people with who have what I need. With a good network of people who provide different services in our society, I can get what ever I need to do what I want. By allowing the law of attraction to bring me to the people who I need to know, I must be ready to receive them. I must know what it is that I what when I meet them. They will join my network, giving me access to their network. And it doesn’t stop there. With the attitude that I have, I will meet the people that I need, and I will get what I need from them. And they will be happy to be doing business with me. (Once I meet them, how to talk to them is discussed in chapter 5). My presence alone will get me what I need, if I meet the right people. This is already happening.

I think that it is important to talk to everyone. Just by talking to them, they will get to know you better. People tend to act differently to people that they know or even if they just recognize. You never know who you are really talking to either, they could be someone important, so be good. Try to avoid making enemies because this will seriously hurt your networks. If some one does not like you, they might get you cut off from someone else’s network, and that is not good. Always be polite and always try to help everyone that you can. Because you never know whom they know, and who they know might be the person that you are looking for. I have met many important people through people I am acquaintances with, so you never know whom you are going to meet through your networks.

My business networks of people include investors, agents, my employees (residential assistant, contractor, secretary, house repairs, etc.) and clients. Some of these people I know now, and some I will meet when the time is right.

2nd Edition will include a map of my network. This will help me figure out whom I know and what I might want from them.

Chapter 5 Communications

Chapter 5 Communications

There is truly a secret to talking to people. There is an easy part and a hard part. The easy part is all you have to do is talk to them. It is that simple. Always be honest and ask for what you want. Most people will help you get what you are looking for. The hard part is more like an art form. This is how you get people to do what you tell them. An integrate combination of persuasion and convincing, blended with compromising. Not taking NO for answer and getting what you want. This is all accomplished through talking.

I am going to have to talk to thousands of people over the next 10 years, to get what I want. For that reason, I have to be good at this. I have to know what it is that I want when I am talking to each and every person.

I have to talk to my residents, my investors, my employees and the person at the hardware store. Every time I talk to one of these people, I need to know what I want. And I want them to do what I want.

There is no room for indecisiveness or uneasiness. I have a reason for talking to this person and I need to be sure. I will get what I want out of the interaction. They will know that I am serious about what I want from my attitude. They will listen to me because of how I talk to them.

1) I will make all residents sign a lease for their stay detailing all the rules. And they will follow the rules because they will have to deal with me directly. I have ways of talking to people and making them do what I say.

2) I will make my investors give me money, all by talking to them. They will see my attitude, confidences, and they will want to invest in my company.

3) Employees will do what I say and they will be very rewarded. I am making it a point to establish personal relationships with all employees. I need to be able to trust all employees, and this will be accomplished by talking to them correctly.

4) I am going to have to talk to hundreds of other peoples as well. I am going to have to talk to the people at the Home Depot to get supplies to fix the buildings. As insignificant as this interaction seems, it is a critical part of my business. I need these supplies. Therefore, I am going to take extra care when talking to everyone. Expanded this concept to every single person that I have to talk to.

Every situation in life is someone talking to someone else, trying to get what he or she wants. It is a wise investment to learn this art form well. Take time to talk to everyone, make him or her feel like they are important, and I will be more likely to get what I need from them.

This is yet another Key to Success.

The telephone: Always answer the phone; unless I am already talking to someone (do not be rude). And always return phone calls. If some one is calling me, they are doing so for a reason. Whatever it is, they feel it is important enough to call me. So I am going to be there to listen. Good things will come from this. Always be able to be contacted. When calling someone, if I have a lot to say, do not just start talking, ask if now a good time is. This will always help the person who I am calling, and so I am more likely to get what I am calling for. Do not leave long messages and try to talk in person about important matters.

Email: Use email as much as possible. This is such a powerful form of communication. You can present all kinds of information, always be sure that the information is accurate because email is a written record and it is preserved for future reference. Also always, reply to emails, so the sender knows that you got it.

Chapter 6 What to wear

Chapter 6 What to wear

As simple as it sounds, attire is very important. It has not always been the most prevalent thing on my mind up to now, but I do understand its value now. Consequently, I stress that wearing the right closes in the right situations will always be beneficial. Moreover, taking the time to dress right is not only worthwhile, but it does not take that much time to do it right.

The right look in the right situation helps pull your attitude and communication together. When people look at you, they are going to make assumptions about you by first what you are wearing. Then they consider your demeanor (attitude) and then they evaluate what you say. So have all three put together before you even enter the situation. People will treat you with more respect and you are more likely to get what you want. For me, it shows who I am talking to that I mean business, that I am serious about what I want, and this increases my chances of getting what I want. In addition, being dressed right will make you feel better about your self and will give you a psychological boost of self-confidence. Some times that is all you need.

I need to get a couple of suits to wear burning business transactions. The rest of the time, I am probably going to wear work clothes, because 75% of my time will be building the furniture and refinishing the houses. And it is going to be a cold winter so dress warm. Dressing warm will help keep the blood flowing and will help you think. And thinking is how everything get done.

Furthermore, remember that I want to provide laundry services to my clients. Professional people already know the importance of what to wear. This is one reason that I want to provide laundry services to my clients. Because as much as they want to wear the right stuff, they probably do not have the time to do laundry every week; these are the kind of clients that I want to have in the hpst housing. People from out of town, which are staying for a few weeks, have better things to other then go to the laundry mat. I can provide this service to them and make a little bit of profit, and I get a very satisfied customer in return, everybody wins.

Chapter 7 Goals

Chapter 7 Goals

First, have a definite, clear practical ideal; a goal, an objective. Second, have the necessary means to achieve your ends; wisdom, money, materials, and methods. Third, adjust all your means to that end.” – Aristotle the Philosopher

Goals are what make anything possible. Without them, success is random. Great attention should be placed on goals, for these are the planned successes.

Assessing goals should be a ritualized daily activity. Always try to improve goals to make them more realistic and more about what I want. Goals are our future. The difference between goals and hopes is that goals have a plan to be accomplished. I do not just hope that my business will be successful; I plan on my business being successful. Most people do not plan to fail; they fail to plan. Well I am planning to succeed, and this book is the illustration and visualization of my goals.

I will set many goals over the next few years, many of which I will achieve. This is an important step in using the Law of Attraction.

These are a few of my goals. To be the owner of a successful Renting company; employing many satisfied employees. This company will be self-sustaining by five, very pleased employees. I will make a few million dollars in the process.

This is what a goal should look like. This should be something that you want to do and you should have a plan to do it. It should be something that you believe in, and something that you want to see happen. Make your own goals. Write them down, and start thinking about them, start making them happen. All of you who do this, watch as your goals start to come true. Those of you, who think this is a bunch of baloney, watch as nothing happens. Pretty cool, isn’t it.

Another goal of mine is to live in a place with beautiful landscaping, I want to be the owner of the beautiful landscaping.

Chapter 8 What lead me to theses ideas?

Chapter 8 What lead me to theses ideas?

This chapter is a personal narrative about my life. As well as what has brought all this into my life. By writing this, I will help clarify the origins of these ideas, to both you and me. Some of this has already been discussed in section one.

I clearly remember what lead me to wanting to work for myself, to be the owner, not the worker. I use my experiences in every aspect of life to come to where I am now. I use my education, my work experiences and what additional wisdom others have pasted along to me. Why am I writing this? What does it means to who ever is reading it? I am writing this book because I want to change the world a little bit. I have some ideas that I think will make not only make the people around me happy, but it will send out happiness to everyone back around.

All these ideas fiercely collided in my head all at once on October 20, 2006. It was at this time that I could no longer sit back and allow myself to be abused by the working class system anymore. I have all the ideas myself, and the intellectual capacity, and the ambition to do it myself. It was at this time that I started writing this book. I decided not to stop until it was finished. I felt like I was going to exploded if I did not get these ideas onto paper and into the heads of those from who I need support. You know who you are because I gave you a copy of this to read. I need your support and advice on what I am about to embark on. I need you know what you think I can do. I always leave room for constructive criticism.

At first, nobody supported me. In the letters between my mom, and me, she is encouraging me to continue wage work, thinking $10/hr is a good wage. Well this book has many mathematical proofs that wageworkers are NOT being paid what they deserve. I believe and think and I am going to fight for the idea that ownership is where the real money is to be made. This is why I am going to start my own business. I am still going to work, but I am going to work for profit, not a wage.

More about the author in chapter 18.

Chapter 9 Ownership and being an Entrepreneur

Chapter 9 Ownership and being an Entrepreneur

Perhaps it was the tremendous inequality that I saw in the modern day industrialist system and my continual disgust and attraction to the capitalist system that lead me on to studying the entrepreneurial system in great detail. I have learned that all sources of profit go to the owner. This is what made me want to use the system for myself. In America, I have the right to private ownership of property and to start my own business. I stand for this fine old Republican value. Still, it was my immense passion against all the exploitation of wageworkers around the world that gave me the power to quit the wage earning system, and to become the owner. Now I work for nobody but myself (and my commitment to my investors).

As owner, I am entitled to all profits from the company. I am also taking the greatest risks. Starting my own business will not be easy, but there is nothing else that I would rather do with my life right now. And the worst thing that could happen is I could fail, and I would not be in any worse condition them I already am in now.

As owner, I get to do what ever I want to do to make money. My personal interests are in house refinishing and furniture building. This is how I want to spend my laboring time for the next few years. After my business gets big enough, my job is going to change to running the company. I want to do this job for the rest of my life. Dealing with employees, making business deals, buying more assets and increasing profits and so on. First I have a hell of a lot of hard work ahead of me. I am 22 years old and there is nothing else that I would rather do then work on MY houses and building furniture to sell to my houses.

More to the point, I sure am not going to work for someone else, making them profits EVER AGAIN. I have to do this my self. All I have to do to do this is buy houses, finish them and furnish them. One-step at a time. This is explained more in section 3, every step of the way. I know what to do to do this and I am going to do it.

Example of working for profits, and risks.

If I build 80 beds, and nobody wants fully furnished rooms, I lose. However, if I can rent out the apartments and add the furniture to the rent over 2 years, I make:

10 houses, 8 bedrooms each.

80 beds x $100 each = $8,000

$8,000 in beds x 4 years = $16,000 profit

Much more risky then working at the mall, but much more profitable. Now I have assets too, which continue to make money for years to come.

Why work for some one else, doing something I don’t want to do, when I can work for myself doing something I like and making huge profits along the way. When I work for myself, I set my own hours, do what I want, I am my own boss, nobody telling me what to do. In addition, I make all the profits.

Why would I do anything else? This is my main reason for starting my own business. No wage job in the world can offer me what I am going to do for myself. I am going to make more then anyone ever could working for a wage. The only difference in the actual work is that I am not going to be paid by the hour. This is where most people get scared, so they are willing to work for $10 an hour. They are so used to making money every time they work, they when they start working without immediate pay, it seems weird. However, I am not working for free. I am not going to be paid right away, but I am going to make much more in the end. The proofs in Chapter one show that I can make $100/hr building my own furniture. And if I have my own houses to put the furniture in, they I do not have to worry about selling it. Also working for myself I get houses, cars, money and control over my own destiny.

It is my goal to acquire these assets. I want to own these moneymaking buildings as soon as possible. I want to own 10 moneymaking houses. I will buy 10 houses in the next 3 years, and I will furnish them all to make the most money I can. It is not my goal to make tons of money by exploiting my renters either. I am going to charge them a fair rent. My profits are going to come from my hard work. I want to put aphorisms on all the doors to all the apartments. This will add a little touch too all the apartments.

Chapter 10 Working Class Rights

Chapter 10 Working Class Rights

Now that I am the owner of the means of production (profit making houses), I will have employees of my own. While my dedication will be to building a profit making company, I will always treat my wage-working employees, as I would want to be treated. This will make them want to work harder for me. Remember the law of karma. I will not only provide them with a decent wage, but affordable housing too. This will cut into my profits, but this is why I want to own my company. This is how I want to spend my profits, on employees and myself. Most of my employees will be friends of mine and I am going to treat them right.

I will not make profits off my employees. I will continue to fight for worker rights for as long as I live. I hope to build a working model for all capitalist and entrepreneurs with how to make business better by treating employees better. The employees are an extremely important part of my business because I cannot do every thing myself. And happy employees will be happy to work harder for me if I make them happy.

I believe that it is thinking like this that will bring my business into the coming age. I sense that the employers of the world are going to be overthrown someday because of their greed. It is only a matter of time before things begin to balance out. The greatest injustice of this system is that it has infiltrated the school systems. Schools teach us at a young age that this is the only way possible. They teach children that it is human nature to accept inequality and to accept that you have to struggle to survive in a world that is so plentiful in wealth. I intend to do something about it. I am going to start a business with a different perspective on the way that things should be.

I have much more to say about worker rights and the eventual revolution that will take place, but this book is about starting a business. I am forced to work with in this system while it still stands. It is not going to be easy and many people are going to say that I cannot do it. Other people will say that the corporations are here to stay and that there is nothing that can stop them. Well there is something that can stop them, the working class. The working class is the most powerful force on earth. They are the ones that do everything. Think of it like master and slaves. The slaves do all the work and the master gets all the reward. However, the master is nothing without the slaves, and the slaves are everything without the master.

Chapter 11 Employees

Chapter 11 Employees

I will not be able to run this company alone. I will have to hire a number of employees to work for me. I am going to pay them well, but they are working to make the business. I do not want to give ownership of my company away to anyone, however, I may need to to get more funding. Also really trusted employees may have opportunities to share other profit sharing means. I still want to maintain complete control of ownership of the company. However, I will pay employees a fair wage, and give them housing too. This is going to cut into my profits, but it is a solid investment. A business with happy and loyal employees is much more likely to succeed.

What I do not understand is why more companies do not take better care of their wage-working employees. Maybe because there is an endless supply of teenagers and Mexicans to fill the void with out them. Nevertheless, why do they have to make so much profit for themselves? Why can’t they at least pay their employees a little bit more? They would work harder and be more likely to stay with the company it they were treated better. They would steal less and be on time more, they would just be happier. It just does not make sense to me why they have to take so much for themselves. How do they sleep at night, taking everything for themselves. Even if they escape karma for their whole lives, they surely will go to hell for their greed and self-indulgence.

I am going to need a couple of employees to run this business. I am going to need someone to clean the rooms and do laundry. I am going to need someone to do maintenance on the buildings, etc. I want to have one building just for employees to live in. I will also live here. This building will be paid for from the rent profits. This is valuable to me because I need a place to live myself, and a place for my friends who I hire as employees. This building will pay for its self from the hard work of the employees.

Chapter 12 Investors

I am going to need money to get this started. I am going to need about $40,000 in finance capital to get this business to the point where is generates its own money. What I am doing is economic development, and there are people that will be willing to invest in such a project. I am going to need to get mortgages to buy houses, because the houses are the key assets to this company.

Investors are one way of getting fast money. However, they will cost me from my profits in the future, so I need to take as little as possible. Some costs are so important that I will happily pay interest on outside investments. Like advertising for apartments will be invaluable if I can keep maximum occupancy.

I am still not sure that this point how much money I am going to need for investors. I will consult with my financial advisor to decide what investments are good for company. Mortgages will pay for houses; rent pays mortgages, but what about all the other expensive. This will find a way of working it’s self out in due time. I am planning to sell class E junk bonds to private investors. These are high risk, high profit bonds.

Example: $5,000 bond. This is a bond between the investor and the company. 3 years from buying date, 1 of 3 things are going to happen:

1. $10,000 returned, if company can afford it, if not next option

2. $5,000 returned, and another $5,000 in the next 3 years. Or if not possible for company, next option.

3. $0 returned, if business fails. All company records will be available.

This is like investing your money into a 24 % account. Remember compound interest. This doubles what the investment is in 3 years, only if you believe that the business is going to succeed. That is why I wrote this book, because after reading this book, it is my hope that you believe in this business, and that you will want to invest. Bonds are sold in any amount. I will sometimes need to ask for a specific amount to fund a certain project, more details on this when the time comes.

I am starting this company from nothing, which is not going to be easy. This is the reason most people think that I am going to fail, this is also the reason that most people do not try to do anything risky, and they just as well work for wages the rest of their lives. I am not going to do it like that. If this plan does not work, then I will come up with something that will. This book is my investment plan. I am committed to everything that this book says, and I am going to follow it to success.

Chapter 13 20-year plan

Chapter 13 20-year plan

Coming Soon to the Second Edition. I already have the next ten years planned, where will 20 take me? Tell me what you think. This is going to continue to develop as time goes on. One-step at a time.

This chapter will be a complete financial plan, including every conceivable expense, tax, cost, income, and anything else that involves money.

Chapter 14 Publishing

Chapter 14 Publishing

Get the word out. This takes two forms.

1) Advertising for clients. I am going to need steady business. Therefore, I am going to need to advertise. The biggest risk for my business is not renting out enough rooms to pay mortgages. This is why advertising is so important. I am going to need to rent out the most rooms possible, to make the most money in rent profit. With proper advertising, I increase the chances of my business being successful. I will spend any amount of money on this (as long as it does not cost more the RP) I will hire an advertising agency and have a personal manager to take care of day-to-day business.

Spend a lot of money on this from the beginning. Get a loan or sell bonds just for this purpose. Use as support for the security of my company. If investors know the full financial details of the business, they are more likely to get invest.

2) Publish book

This document has amazing potential to be published. This is another business proposal for working for me.

Spend 100 hours writing this book. If published

Sells a million copies

I make $0.50 cents on each $19.99 book

I make $500,000 in 100 hours of work

$500,000/100hrs = $5,000/hr !!

The nubraric beauty of retail. Doing millions of small transactions. This is the dream of all entrepreneurs.

Anyways, this is a high-risk job because the chances of me being published are low. In addition, the chances are even lower to sell 1 million copies. Even so, it can be done. If I spend 200 hours on it, I still make $2,500/hr. I will take this high-risk job because I have nothing to lose. As I work for myself, I decide how I spend my time.

If not published, I am out only 100 hours, that I spent writing my game plan for the next 20 years. Most of the time I spent sitting down, learning about lots of different things about the world. Why not try? Why not do this? The book’s real purpose is to show to investors to show them that I am serious about this business. This is the main objective of this book. I need to get $40,000 in investments, and this book is going to help me do it.

Finish the Second Edition as soon as possible, set up book conference at SUNY. Invite as many people as possible, also invite media, book publishers, possible investors, friends who might be interested in working with me. Book Debut Promotion, I will present a speech about the book followed by questions and answers. I will be sure to have plenties of copies on hand to sell and to sign autographs. This conference is going to be videotaped and used for further promotion on website. Video promotion and audio copies of the book will be available on the website.

I could become a famous writer in the process. I like writing, so I think I could handle the work.

What I have to do to get this published: This is only the first edition folks. If you are reading this, this is only the beginning of this book. I am asking you to give me your input on this. I am going to use your suggestions and contribution in the second edition of this book. You are the test audience, what do you think of the book and the ideas in it? Tell me: would you want to live in one of these apartments? Do you think other people will like the ideas? And do you think that the ideas in this book could work at all? Was everything clear? Were there any parts that you did not understand, or were confusing?

It is important to me that I get your response in writing. I also need to know if you give me permission to uses your ideas and to quote your support for both the business and the book. The second edition will have a forward written by some one else. If you have enough to say about this book, please feel free to respond with something that could be published as a forward. This is going to be very important in the success of this book.

Chapter 15 Location

Chapter 15 Location

Location is very important. I am going to own 10 houses: where should they be? I have decided to start this business in Albany. This will put me this is city for another 5 years. I have already found the first house that I want to buy.

I have divided Albany up into 2 sections. Cheap housing and the high profit housing. I want to have locations in both downtown and uptown areas of Albany. My models predict more success in the high profit housing investments, so this is where I need to spend the most energy.

However, the cheap housing is going to the source of my early profits, so this is where I am going to start my business. These properties will benefit the most from house reinventions. Most of my early labor is going to be invested in refinishing. This is what is going to keep me in business in the beginning. Once I start making enough rent profit, I will invest more into the high profit housing.

I have to have both within the next three years.

This section is also going to discuss individual houses. I have been doing so much research on houses lately, that every time I am walking around the city, I find myself looking at houses. I know what to look at when I am looking at the exterior of a house. I am looking at the paint job, the porch, the windows and trim, the roof, the yard, the lot size, the neighboring houses, the surrounding area and the location in the city. I know what to look for now when I am looking at houses for sale. I have already looked at a few houses now. The first house I want to buy, I want it to be a fix it upper. I want a house that needs a new paint job. These are the kinds of things that I am looking for. I also want at least four apartments per building.

I have found the first house that I want to buy. I want to buy 215 Quail Street, Albany NY, 12203. See attached sheet. This house fits all of my models from maximum profits.

Mortgage details

Chapter 16 Primerica

Chapter 16 Primerica

Primerica is the company that I started working with at the end of the summer. This is a financial services company that helps middle class families get out of debt and become financial independent. Learning how to sell these products has taught me everything I know about investing and mortgages. However, the most important thing that Primerica has taught me how to be the owner of my own business. They have taught me that I have to work for no pay to make money in the end. They helped me break out of the wage working class. They taught me this so I could sell financial services of Citigroup. They have taught me well. I owe them a great bit of gratitude. And they did this for me for the low cost of $199 (charge on my credit card).

They promised me money. They gave me the ability to think for my self, and work for myself. They also taught me everything I know about mortgages and refinancing and investments. This company will help me make a financial plan for the rest of my life. They also taught me the secret.

I am going to continue working with them. Not only can they help me get the mortgages I need, but they can also give me investment options and life insurance. I plan to make money with them in the future. This company can help me refinance my houses, invest the difference and help me make the most I can with my assets. Plus, I am going be able to get commission the mortgages I sell to myself.

One amazing thing about all this is that I already sell these products for this company. I am licensed to sell mortgages and insurance. I know what the process involves and I know whom I have to talk too. I have the network of people in the financial industry. I think that the Law of Attraction has brought all this into my life to help me accomplish my dreams. Chapter 17 Personal reasons and debt

Chapter 17 Personal reasons and debt

This is the most important chapter in this book for me. This is why I am going to work so hard to make this business successful. I have to. There is no other choice for me now. I have decided not to go to graduate school right away. I want to work for myself for a few years.

Either I continue working for a slave wage for the rest of my life, burying my self further and further into debt, or I take that one tremendous step into the world on my own. This is my current debt, and every dollar that I am in debt now is one more reason that I want to work as hard as I can to do something about it. I am not going to wait any longer; I am going to do something about it now.

I am $30,680 in debt right now, and late fees and interest on most debts. Why should I pay interest on my money? I want my money making interest for me.

Most of the debt if from school loans, which were unquestionably the best investment I ever made. Although I recently had to apply for my first un-subsidized college loan. I electrically signed a contract that said I agreed to pay back these loans. Now that is what I intend to do. However, there is no other way that I am prepared to do this other then starting my own business.

(Please allow me to explain the DWI charge. I come from a family who has a history of alcoholism. Alcohol had played an important part in my development my entire life. And it almost ruined my life more then once. However I made it through, and I have made the decision not to drink anymore. My time is too valuable to waste drinking all the time. I can enjoy a beer every now and then, but I do not need to get drunk everyday. People that get drunk everyday do not have the kind of foresight into the future that I have now. I have a new reason to live! Alcoholics drink because it makes them feel good. Now I have something else in my life that makes me feel even better. And by the way, all criminal charges were dropped, and it will never happen again.)

I feel like I have the commitment to do this, to start this business to get me out of the hole. I owe it to all the people who I owe money. I owe it to them to succeed.

I owe it to the employees that get the privilege of working with me. I owe it to the people who get the lucky pleasure of working with a socialist capitalist boss. I am going to pay them well. After 10 years, my company could have many employees. All of which are going love me. I owe it to the world, to make it a better place.

I owe it to my family, not only myself and the lucky lady that marries me, but my children. I will have something to hand down to them. This business will be my legacy.

I want to be able to provide for all those who have provided me so much. I want to sustain my family and myself. I want to be able to help my parents when they need me too. I want to be a productive member of society.

That said I am going to do it for all of them, and I must start now. My first debt is the Lenscrafter bill. It is due by the end of January. I have to start now. Right now, not later but now. I do not see a reason to wait any longer. Do not tell me that I should wait, because I have these prior commitments that I have to honor, and this is how I am going to pay for these debts.

Another reason to start my owe business is that I have a natural talent at organizing things. I am a natural leader and I want to be the boss. I want to run things the way I want to run them. When working at Stewarts and Regal, I would get theses ideas in my head while doing hours of monotonous work. I wanted so badly to change simple things in the organizational structure of the job. Mostly changes were to increase work moral and to make it a better place to work for the employees, but also to increase THEIR profits! Nobody would listen to me. It was their loss.

Now I am going to do it for my employees and myself.

I control the structure and every decision. I need to be in control. I will have it no other way.

Chapter 18 Work and Education

Chapter 18 School and Education

This book is everything that school has taught me. I went to school for 17 years, including 5 years at SUNY Albany.

This is what school has taught me: these are the principles that my business will follow.

- always be honest and fair

- always do the best you can

- Communicate your ideas with others in a clear manor.

- Do everything completely the first time: pay attention to every detail, try to get A+ or %100

- To assimilate me into the capitalist society

- To teach me empathy towards others, including classmates.

- To take my time

- Accept constructive criticisms

- To talk and behave in a civilized way. To always be polite and to respect other people. All of these ideas are the basis of this book. These are also going to be the fundamentals of my company.

This book is a living testimony of what the purpose of schools are in society. I would be in a very different place if I had not gone to school. I would not have learned about capitalism and revolutionary writers, from whom I have learned so much.

I have finally graduated from school, even thou I do not officially graduated until the spring; I have graduated in my own mind and spirit. I was planning on continuing on to graduate school, but will all the debt I have now, and the kinds of jobs that I want to do, working for myself and starting my own business is what I want to do right now. I admit that I have a lot more to learn, and I pledge to continue learning as much as I can every day until I cannot do it anymore, for learning is crucial to success. I also am committed to graduating in the spring, I am still very excited about many of the classes that I taking now. There are also a few more college course that I want to take in the spring semester, such as chemistry and philosophy. The nice thing about school now, and the way I have always thought about school, is that my grade point average does not matter. I am going to college to learn what I want to learn. I take what I want from every class that I take. If I did not want to be there, then I would now go. I want to learn, I want to gain knowledge of different parts of the world. This is why I went to college. Now I am ready to take all this knowledge of the world and apply it how I see fit. I want to make a difference in the world, and that is what I am going to do.

About the author:

David Whittmore Coon, Born on July 16, 1984

Studied at the State University of New York at Albany, SUNY Albany.

Sociology Major, Philosophy and Psychology Minors

In addition to my academics, I worked at 15 different wage jobs since I was 15 years old. I have 7 years of well-rounded job experience in many different fields. These are all the wage jobs that I have had in the last 7 years.

Hall of Springs, catering service, 1999. I was a dishwasher and handy man. This company would cater out, and my job was to wash the dishes that they trucked home. This was my first real job. $5.15/hr

Maestros’, summer ‘99-summer 2000. Dish washing for a fancy restaurant on Broadway. I worked at this job for a year and a half. $6/hr

CVS, CVS Phototech, pharmacy, summer 2000-spring 2002 I worked at CVS in all departments, cashiering, stocking, facing, photo lab and pharmacy. I did it all for almost 2 years. $6/hr

Babbage’s, fall 2001- spring 2002. While in high school, this was my dream job. I was a game advisor for my favorite video game store. I got to talk about videogames all day, and I got a killer discount. $5.50/hr

Gecone’s pizza delivery, 3 weeks during the summer of 2001. My first pizza delivery job. Unfortunately, I was not very good at it, I was just too young, and I could not find the houses quick enough. $5/hr plus tips

Bavarian Pretzels, one week 2001. It was good while it lasted, not enough time.

Private landscaping and handy man services, summer 2003. This summer I worked for a wealthy Jewish dentist as a landscaper and repairperson. I got to work with my good friend Will Deptolski all summer. We got paid a cool $7/hr.

Regal Entertainment Group, June 2004-July 2005. This was my first collision with the corporate world. Regal is a massive corporate machine with a sickening case of capitalist fever. This company correctly applied all forms of maximizing profits in the book. I learned much about the ways corporations operate while interacting with employees. This job was not all bad; I got to see every movie for free. $6.50/hr

Stewarts, July 2005-January 2006. I busted my ass for this job. This job really taught me independence. I was completely responiable for the welfare of the store. Paid $7/hr

Trio’s pizza delivery, February 2006. Job shifts were 5 pm -5 am. Paid $4/hr, plus tips, average $13 an hour. I had to use my own car and gas, and there are some scary parts of Albany. I worked this job because I had failed at it before, this time I was so much better. There really is not anything that I cannot do.

Babbage’s again, Summer 2006 This time under new corporate ownership, the job was a lot harder. At this point, I was able to do anything. It was not long before I was being called the best Game Advisor in the store. $6.75/hr, plus free games.

Auntie Anne’s Pretzels, Summer 2006. This was the first franchise business that I had worked for. The owner lived in Long Island, and he drove up once a month to work at the store on the weekends. This owner rolled and sold Pretzels once a month and made almost $10,000 a year, just doing it on the weekends. Most of the store’s surplus profits when to the store manager, and the rest to pay the employees. However, the owner, only working one weekend a month made $10,000. This taught me a lot about ownership and employees. The working conditions were relaxed, sometimes busy. $7/hr.

Painting and restoring houses in Saratoga. Summer 2006 I worked for Paint Works, a painting company owned and operated by Roland. He taught me how to restore housing. This was one of the most educational jobs I ever had. I am going to use these skills in all the houses that I buy.

I have also work for many other people, providing many other services.

In high school, I worked a few weekends as a handy man for a schoolteacher of mine. Mr. Leighton. He also wrote me a recommendation for college. He owned two beautiful houses in Saratoga. One that his family lived in and the other had five apartments. I helped him paint and do other tasks around the house. He made a decent living from doing this and being a schoolteacher. This is the kind of thing that I want to be doing.

All these jobs gave me the perspective of all these different employers. Now I am ready to be the employer.

Combined with knowledge from school: studying groups (sociology), individual people (psychology), morals in the world (philosophy), and of course math. I have used the ideas learned from the last 5 years of school to write this book. Now I and going to put the ideas in this book into practice.

I also want to do something that I can help people as much as I can. I want to make a living doing something I want to do. I want to succeed and I want to make a difference.

I am not sure as to where to add this section, but I have to talk about what I have learned from the drug market. I know many people that do and sell drugs. Just so everyone knows, a lot of college students experiment with drugs at some time or another. I have learned much from studying the drug market. And it has taught me a few very important things. First off, even though the sales of drugs are illegal, they are still a valued commodity, and fair business practices must still be used while distributing them. I have learned so much about economics by studying these underground economies. These markets follow all the economic laws, such as the laws of supply and demand, good customer service increases business, accurate bookkeeping and a solid business plan are needed for success. Proper advertising and marketing is needed to keep business afloat. And of course don’t rip some one off or you are likely to get your fingers broken. I think that selling drugs is capitalism in its raw form. And the motivations for most people deciding to become drug dealers is their constant rejection from the traditional jobs. Mostly kids, who have tried to get real work, have been burned so many times by the only crappy jobs that are available to them, that they take it upon them selves to do something useful. They find a service that people need and want, and they fulfill that need. Outlawing drugs will never make them go away; they just go out of sight. I have met some dealers that say that their lives have become much happier and fulfilling since they started doing something that makes their customers happy. Most of these people could be doing some thing more useful with their time, but the system that is in place now, consistently forces these kinds of economies to evolve. I have learned about alterative ways of doing things that could change this for the better. We need a more socialist approach to the way that profit should be distributed to the people that do the work. The current systems forces people that would gladly work for a living to commit crimes because they have no money, because there are no good jobs available to them. When I become the owner, I intend to run things a little bit differently then the way they are run now.

Let me tell you one more thing. This business is going to be Progressive. The world is always changing, times are different now then they were 40 years ago. And they are going to be very different from now, 40 years later in 2047 (I will be 62 years old). I think that someone should put together a new plan on how to run things better. And if nobody else is going to do it, then it might as well be me. Like it or not, it is going to be my generation that is going to run things for the next 40 years. As a society we always want to progress in a way the benefits the most people right?

More to come about the future, coming soon in second edition.

Topics include specific ideas that I have learned in school and how they apply to this business.
